This summer has been hot, humid and a little hard to breathe, making us turn to our trusty fans, air conditioners and dehumidifiers to keep our homes comfortable.
Over the past few months, there have been a couple of fires reported in our sister community, the Village of New Maryland, that have been started by dehumidifiers (Link). It is important that any appliance that is in use over long periods of time are properly maintained and checked for issues such as overheating, loose wires, clogged filters, etc. It is also a good idea to clean and maintain them so that they can work at optimal efficiency (see here for helpful tips).
In 2016, a recall was issued on several models due to fire hazard. If you do use a dehumidifier, please check your model online to determine if yours may be part of a recall – here are a couple of links you can check:
