Rural Mail Delivery

The Hanwell LSDAC has met with representatives from Canada Post regarding rural mail delivery in the area of Deerwood Dr., Fawn Cres., Moosewood Dr., Mary Ellen Dr., and Team Dr. Canada Post has completed their Traffic Safety Assessment of all the mailboxes in this area.

By now all residents in this area should have received a notice as to whether or not their mailbox meets safety criteria.

Representatives from Canada Post will be meeting individually with all residents whose mailbox has not passed safety criteria. If a mailbox does not meet the safety criteria, Canada Post may be able to suggest a way that it can be brought up to code.

Once a mailbox does meet safety criteria, residents can choose one of the three options

  1. Keep their mailbox
  2. Use a community mailbox
  3. Use a post office box

If a mailbox cannot meet safety criteria, residents can choose to use a community mailbox or a post office box. These options will only be given to current residents. New residents will use a community mailbox.

Canada Post has determined where community mailboxes will be situated. There will be one between 40 and 50 Deerwood Drive, and another across from 287 Deerwood Drive.

There will also be one beside 81 Fawn Cres., and opposite 38 Mary Ellen Dr. on Team Drive. The community mailboxes are situated in areas so that residents will not have to walk or drive more than 1 to 1.5 kilometers from their homes.

All areas will have pull offs for vehicles and meet safety criteria. For more information, please contact Canada Post Customer Service at 1-866-501-1699.
