Land use planning includes zoning, building permits, development permits, subdivisions, and signage.
Planning Staff at the Capital Region Service Commission (CRSC) provide land use planning recommendations, and convey them to the Infrastructure and Parks Management Committee. Council has appointed a Development Officer at CRSC, who looks after development permits and building permits. Any rezoning applications first require approval by Hanwell Council, and then further approval by the Planning Review and Adjustment Committee (PRAC).
CRSC enforces Council’s By-Laws, Hanwell’s Building By-Laws, Subdivision By-Laws, Signage By-Laws, and zoning amendments to the Rural Plan. Any permit applications and fees are received by CRSC on Hanwell’s behalf.
